When Shirley Met Florence: The Story of a Remarkable Friendship
|
Abstract |
Through a lifetime together in Montreal, two Jewish women still cherish the ties that bind them together after 55 years, and celebrate a passion for music that brought them together. Ten and thirteen years old when they first met, Florence was attracted by Shirley’s piano playing. She climbed the outside staircase to the balcony, slipped in a window, and introduced herself. Florence is a lesbian; Shirley, as a young woman, married Florence’s brother, and now there are seven grandchildren.
