Abstract
A business and social biography of the Scottish-born Montrealer Thomas Morland (1826-1870), who in 1868, using a newly-established joint-stock corporation method, established the Montreal Rolling Mills. According to the author, the original investors in this corporation "reads like a veritable 'who's who' of Canada's business elite" and "was a creature of the [Montreal] Square Mile."
