L'architecture résidentielle du Vieux Sherbrooke, 1870-1915 : l'exemple des maisons Morey et Johnston
|
Abstract |
The author compares two residential buildings located in Sherbrooke’s Old North (Vieux Nord) district, buildings that correspond to two phases in the development of this neighbourhood. Being good examples of the influence of American architectural trends on the architecture of the Eastern Townships, the author notes that these two homes have distinct styles, spatial organization and building materials that reflect on their original owner’s social status. Thomas Slade Morey's house was built in 1873 and Hubert Baker Johnston's house was built in 1914.
