Abstract
Despite the Jewish imperative of doing justice to the poor, poverty is a persistent and significant aspect of the North American Jewish experience. Established in 1977 as a McGill University School of Social Work field teaching center and funded through the Montreal CJA, Project Genesis, through its outreach and community organization efforts, has empowered the Jewish poor of Montreal through a combination of mobilization, advocacy, and participation.
