A Change in Climate: The Conquest and the Marchands of Montreal
|
Abstract |
The author argues that the combined factors of the arrival of (relatively) large numbers of English-speaking fur traders on the Montreal mercantile community, the attitude of British officials towards French Canadians, and the changing political climate of the colony led to the demise of the French-speaking traders from the fur trade in the decades following the Conquest. Information is given on the English-speaking traders.
