L'Esthetique de la trace anonyme. Étude comparative des cas de Betty Goodwin et de Christian Boltanski
|
Abstract |
The Montreal-born Betty Goodwin (1923-2008) studied design at Valentine's Commercial School of Art in Montreal, then launched her career as a painter and printmaker in the late 1940s. She used a large variety of media, including collage, sculpture, printmaking, painting and drawing, assemblage and etchings. Her subject matter almost always revolves around the human form. Goodwin's work has been exhibited in Montreal since the early 1960s, as well as in the rest of North America and in Europe. The author identifies and studies the persistence of mortality and the desire for perenniality in the works of Goodwin and the French-born artist Christian Boltanski.
