Linguicism in Quebec and Canada

Abstract |
The authors examine the phenomenon of discrimination in Canada and in Quebec from different angles: discrimination in employment, the most vulnerable groups, discrimination in Quebec compared with discrimination in the rest of Canada, and the most common grounds for discrimination. The points out that among these grounds, linguicism (discrimination against speakers of a different language or with a different accent) is a significant reality. Their results demonstrate that it is mostly experienced by Anglophone minorities in Quebec, Francophone minorities outside of Quebec and allophones both in Canada and in Quebec.
