| Abstract |
The Victoria bridge, built between 1854 and 1859, was the first bridge to span the St. Lawrence River. Both a railway and pedestrian bridge, it connected the City of Montreal to the Atlantic seaports of the United States. When it was completed, it was the longest bridge in the world.
