La fin des deux solitudes chez Hugh MacLennan et Michel Basilières

Abstract |
The author revisits the expression “two solitudes,” which used to designate the historical self-isolation of the Francophone and Anglophone communities in Quebec, through the study of two novels: Two Solitudes (1945) by Hugh MacLennan and Blackbird (2003) by Michel Basilières. The author points out that both novels show that this image traditionally associated with social division and fragmentation has truly changed in the field of Anglo-Quebec literature. The question remains as to whether this image is still relevant given the changes that have transformed Quebec since the 1940s.
