| Abstract |
Focusing on Quebec's Eastern Townships, the author examines landscape as a visual representation, and landscape as place. Her case-studies, beginning at the turn of the twentieth century, considers landscape in relation to a broad network of social relations and cultural meanings. One case study is an examination of the paintings and illustrations of loggers by Townships artist Frederick Simpson Coburn (1871-1960).
