Abstract |
According to Stats Can, since 2001, Quebec’s healthcare workers have been using English less as their main language of work and more together with French. 78 percent of healthcare workers primarily use French on-the-job in metropolitan Montreal, compoared to 95.9 percent of healthcare workers in the rest of Quebec. 12.1 percent primarily use English in metropolitan Montreal, while 1.7 percent primarily use English in the rest of the province. 9.7 percent of healthcare workers use both French and English (or another language) equally in metropolitan Montreal, while 1.9 percent use both languages in the rest of Quebec. In 2016, six in ten healthcare workers in methropolitan Montreal indicated they were able to hold a conversation in English, while four in ten in the rest of Quebec indicated they were able to hold a conversation in English.
