Abstract |
The New York-born Loyalist William Smith (1728-1793) was sworn in as Chief Justice of Quebec on November 2, 1786. He had earlier sat on the Supreme Court of the British colony of New York. The editor considers Smith's diary to be an historical source book of the late-eighteenth century British empire in North America.
