Abstract |
An examination of some forty commercial buildings designed by the Montreal architectural firm of Ross and Macdonald during the first half of the twentieth century. By the late 1920s, Ross and Macdonald was the largest architectural firm in Canada, specializing in buildings for institutions and big business. The author explores the impact of “economic rationalism” advocated by businessmen of this inter-war era on the architectural designs of urban-core office structures.
