L’accessibilité des services sociaux et de santé chez les minorités de langue officielle du Canada et les facteurs influant sur leur accès : une étude de portée
Abstract
The authors note that Official Language Minorities (OLM) in Canada, (i.e. English Quebecers and Francophones outside of Quebec), face difficulties when accessing health and social services (HSS). To the authors’ knowledge, an integrated synthesis of HSS regarding those difficulties and the factors (barriers and facilitators) influencing access to HSS is lacking. The goal of their study was to describe accessibility to HSS and to identify the factors influencing access to HSS for OLM in Canada. Thus, a scoping study was undertaken by the authors in nine databases, combined with an extended search strategy. Their analysis of 74 documents showed that HSS are generally lacking for OLM. Fifteen factors (8 facilitators, 11 barriers) were identified. Finally, 26 connections were noted (one connection found for facilitators, 25 connections found for barriers), complexifying the access to HSS for OLM. They conclude that interventions facilitating access to HSS for OLM could benefit all Canadians, considering common barriers shared by OLM and the Canadian population.
