Abstract |
The unfinished memoir of psychiatrist Eric Berne (1910-1970), best known as the creator of transactional analysis as a way of explaining human behavior and the author of the book, Games People Play: The Psychology of Human Relationships (1964). The memoir, about growing up and coming of age on Montreal's Ste-Famille Street, is accompanied by a prologue and epilogue by Terry Berne, Eric Berne's son. Berne describes Ste-Famille of his youth as a street which sheltered approximately equal numbers of the three religions, and where the children of the two crosses and the star played together in harmony without jeers or bitterness. Their parents, however, maintained complete, but polite, segregation.
