L’incendie du parlement à Montréal en 1849 : un événement occulté : présentation
|
Abstract |
An historical examination of the burning of the Parliament building of the Province of Canada on April 25, 1849, by English Quebecers enraged over the passage of the Rebellion Losses Act. The Parliament at that time was located in Montreal. The authors present a Québécois nationalist interpretation of the events leading up to the riot that led to the burning of the building by (according to the authors) "radical British Tories," and "ultra-Tory militiamen supported by the military junta which took control of the colonial state with the imposition of martial law in the district of Montreal on December 5, 1837."
