Abstract |
The author investigates the cross-fertilization between the modern Canadian arts movements in the first decades of the twentieth century. She examines of the strong parallels between the campaigns of the Group of Seven to modernize Canadian art and the work of Montrealers A.J.M. Smith and Frank Scott to modernize Canadian poetry. Smith (1902-1980) and Scott (1899-1985) founded the McGill Fortnightly Review in 1925. It was one of the first Canadian periodicals to publish modern poetry.
