Abstract
An exploration of the role played by the landscape of Montreal and its rural environs in the cultural transformation of Anglophone Montrealers. The author studies how mid-Victorian Montrealers participated in and organized such indigenous activities as snowshoeing and tobogganing to construct a national identity.
