| Abstract |
The Irish-born Edward Dagge Worthington (1820-1895) was described as "the doyen of the medical profession in the Eastern Townships" at the time of his death. He served as a Governor of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Lower Canada and was the first President of the St. Francis District Medical Association. His "reminiscence" is a history of medical practice and training in Quebec in the nineteenth century. It includes accounts of body-snatching, bleeding, and macabre operations, as well as a description of the first operations under anaesthetic (ether and chloroform) in Canada, which he performed.
