Abstract |
The author analyzes the function of the Lachine Canal. His purpose is to determine the extent to which the Canal served the industries and establishments located on or near its banks, as a transport facility, and as a source of water. The author also includes a survey of the physical and cultural landscape of the area surrounding the Canal (which he refers to as the Lachine Canal Zone)in order to assess the relationship of the Canal to that area.
