Greetings from Montreal: Hospital Postcards of the Maude Abbott Medical Museum
|
Abstract |
McGill University's Maude Abbott Medical Museum includes a collection of approximately 125 postcards that depict 34 Montreal area hospitals, hospices and asylums from about 1900 to 1960. An on-line exhibit featuring the post cards was held in 2020-2021. The exhibit included short histories of institutions shown on the post cards but which no longer exist. Five of those short histories (for The Western General Hospital, The Protestant Hospital for the Insane, The Alexandra Hospital for Contagious Diseases, The Royal Victoria Hospital, and Hospice St-Jean-de-Dieu) are included in the author's article.
