Documents Relating to the North West Company
|
| Abstract |
The North West Company was a fur trading company, founded in 1779 and comprised primarily of Scottish-born Montrealers, that was in competition with the London-based Hudson's Bay Company. Tensions between the two companies eventually led to armed skirmishes. The decline in fur pelts led to the merger of the two companies in 1821.
