Abstract |
The author tells the story of the Jewish community in Montreal in recent history, from the Quiet Revolution to the 1995 referendum and its aftereffects, Matzagate, the national unity debate, the Partition Movement, and Sephardi-Ashkenazi relations and Quebec politics. He considers the impact of Quebec's important political, economic, and linguistic changes on the Montreal Jewish community, as well as the Montreal community's ongoing relationship with Jewish communities in the rest of Canada.
