The Hidden Symbol: The Institutional Discourse of Linguistic Duality in Canada and the Evolving Spirit of the Official Languages Act
Abstract
An examination of the evolving versions of and amendments to the federal Official Languages acts from 1969 to the present, and how French Quebec came to be regarded as an official language majority, equivalent to and separate from the English language majority in the rest of Canada. The author pays little regard to English Quebec as an Official Languages minority community under the present version of the act.
