La poursuite d'un dialogue fragile : René Lévesque et la communauté juive du Québec (1960-1976)

Abstract |
An examination of the interaction of René Lévesque with Montreal's Jewish community between 1960 and 1976. As a journalist, then a Liberal Cabinet Minister, then leader of the Parti Québécois, Lévesque tried to maintain an open dialogue with the Jewish community despite that community's historic fears of anti-Semitism within nationalist movements, including Quebec's sovereignty movement. The author points out that Lévesque and certain members of the city's Jewish community sought to maintain a healthy dialogue between Jews and French-Canadians during the period under review.
