Abstract
In 1847 a ship named the "Carricks" carrying refugees from the Irish famine was wrecked in a storm off Cap-des-Rosiers. The thirty survivors of the 230 passengers became the nucleus of Douglastown's St. Patrick's Parish. In 1860, Bishop Baillargeon erected (legally created) the parish of "St. Patrick's of Douglastown". It is the oldest English-speaking parish on the Gaspé coast.
