Abstract |
Biographies of 612 printers in Quebec City between 1764 and 1900. William Brown (c.1737-1789) and Thomas Gilmore (c.1741-1773) were the first printers in the city, publishing the bilingual Quebec Gazette/La Gazette de Québec newspaper, which first appeared on June 21, 1764, as well as over 250 books, handbills, pamphlets, catechisms and other printed materials. The authors list 6,843 titles of books, periodicals and other documents printed in Quebec City over the 136-year period.
