Abstract
An examination of class, gender and religious bias in the primary source material portrayals, especially newspapers accounts, of the murder in 1895 of a 30 year-old woman in Montreal by her allegedly abusive husband. The author examines accounts of the murder and trial in the Montreal Daily Star and The Gazette, as well as La Presse, La Patrie and the Toronto Globe.
