Abstract |
The Scottish-born businessman William Cuthbert (1759-1854) immigrated to Lower Canada in the 1820s and settled in New Richmond, in the Gaspé's Baie des Chaleurs region. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly in January 1848 but handed in his resignation in June 1850 because of ill health. However, the Speaker of the Assembly refused to take immediate action and Cuthbert remained officially a member until the end of his term on November 6, 1851.
