Abstract |
How do "Anglo-Québécois" writers present themselves? What places — imaginary or real — are the basis of their writing? What is their relationship with the Franco-Québécois and English-Canadian literary heritage? To answer these questions, the author studies the essays and non-fiction works (interviews, lectures, public statements, studies) of Mordecai Richler, Gail Scott and David Homel, three English Montreal writers who have singular and complex relations with the Quebec literary field. The author argues that reading the works of these three writers provides an opportunity to reflect on cultural legacies and on the constitution of literary memories, and also makes it possible to question the critical category of the "Anglo-Québécois writer", a label that the author claims is certainly functional, but deserves nonetheless to be put in perspective.
