Abstract |
In 2018, Ireland's Great Famine Voices Roadshow joined with Montreal's Irish community in the annual "Walk to the Black Rock," organized by the Montreal Irish Memorial Park Association. Among the dignitaries in that year's walk were Michael Hurley, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland, Ottawa; Mícheál Mac Donncha, Lord Mayor of Dublin; and Marc Miller, Member of Parliament for Ville-Marie-Le Sud-Ouest-Île-des-Soeurs; Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montreal; and Christine Zachary-Deon, Chief of the Mohawk Band Council, Kahnawake. Their speeches, along with those of 13 other participants, are recorded on this web page. Montreal’s The “Walk to the Black Rock” began in 1865 and is one of the oldest Irish Famine commemorative processions in the world.
