Abstract |
Montreal's Nelson's Column was erected in 1809 on what is now Place Jacques-Cartier to honour the memory of Admiral Horatio Nelson following his death in 1805 at the Battle of Trafalgar. Samuel Gerrard proposed building Nelson's Column at Montreal's Exchange Coffee House to honour Nelson's memory and his victory over Napoleon's fleet at Trafalgar. .
