Abstract |
The Brownsburg, Argenteuil county-born Silas Huntington Carpenter (1854-1916) joined the City of Montreal police force in 1880 as a constable, was promoted sergeant in 1882, joined the Canadian Secret Service Agency in 1890, and was appointed the first Chief of Montreal's Bureau of Detectives in 1896, a position he held until 1912. The author outlines some of the criminal cases Carpenter was involved with in his years as a police officer.
