Title
Movie Palaces on Canadian Downtown Main Streets: Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver
Abstract
A study of the emergence of twentieth century “movie palaces” in three Canadian urban centers, one being along St. Catherine Street in Montreal. These theatres in each of the cities were always near or next to major department stores – which leads the author to conclude that amusement and consumption made “being downtown” significant in everyday Canadian urban life.
