An account of one of the early English owners of the Beauharnois seignory, Alexander Ellice (1743-1805), a London merchant whom the author claims died in 1805. Robert Sellar, a Huntingdon journalist and local historian, claimed in his 1888 history, The History of the County of Huntingdon and of the Seignories of Chateauguay and Beauharnois From Their First Settlement to the Year 1839, that Ellice died in 1804.
