Abstract |
An examination of nineteenth-century Quebec women's slow integration into sports, an "arena" dominated by men. The author gives examples of the leadership role played by English-speaking women in Montreal in the fields of sports and exercise. For example, in 1858 the Montreal Ladies Archery Club was established, making it the first sports club for women in Canada.
