A study of the social and economic conditions of apprenticeship in Quebec City and its suburbs at the turn of the nineteenth century. Bakers, blacksmiths, coopers, shoemakers, ship carpenters, tailors, and wood-workers are examined. Includes information on the differences and similarities of apprenticeship practices between the city's French-speaking and English-speaking communities.
