Abstract |
A history of several Eastern Townships' counties, as well as a brief overview of their political, industrial and social development. Includes short biographical sketches of the leading nineteenth-century citizens in the area. The author points out that most of the information in the book was obtained through interviews with the area's original settlers or from old newspapers and government records. John Henry Pope (1819-1889) was a farmer, lumberman, railway entrepreneur, and federal politician.
