Dorchester House : Home of a Montreal Family for Over Half a Century
|
Abstract |
Dorchester House, located between Mansfield and St. Monique (now roughly Robert-Bourassa), was built in the late 1850s to the personal specifications of Montreal businessman and financier Jacob Henry Joseph (1814-1907) as his family home. When Jacob died, his eldest son, Henry, continued to live there with his family until 1913, at which time the house was torn down to accommodate the building of the Canadian Northern Railway (now CN Rail) into downtown Montreal. The author provides a biography of Jacob Henry Joseph and his connection to the house.
