Abstract |
An biographical/genealogical study of the lives of sisters Adelaide and Armine Nutting, born in the Eastern Townships, and their impacts outside of Quebec. In 1889, Adelaide Nutting (1858 -1948) began a nursing career at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where she rose to be the Superintendent and Principal of the Johns Hopkins Scool of Nursing, President of the Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses in the United States and Canada, Chair of institutional management at Teachers College, Columbia University, and then a professor of nursing in the newly established Department of Nursing and Health at Teachers College. Armine Nutting (1861-1942) was a Canadian suffragette, best known for her involvement in the nascent Newfoundland women's rights movement.
