Quand une église devient musée : le cas du MUSO – Musée de société des Deux-Rives à Salaberry-de-Valleyfield
|
Abstract |
The author recounts how, in the town of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, located southwest of Montreal, the Valleyfield Presbyterian Church, constructed between 1880-1882, became the Valleyfield United Church in 1925, then the Emmanuel de Pentecôte church in the mid-1980s, and is currently the MUSO – Musée de société des Deux-Rives since 2005. The land for the original church was donated by the owners of the Montreal Cotton factory for its workers. The author relates the challenges faced by the community as it rallied to transform the church into a museum.
