Rickson Outhet: Bringing the Olmsted Legacy to Canada: A Romantic View of Nature in the Metropolis and the Hinterland
|
Abstract |
The Montreal-born Rickson Albert Outhet (1876-1951) was Canada's first native-born professional landscape architect. A devotee of Frederick Law Olmsted, the American designer of New York's Central Park and Montreal's Mount Royal Park, Outhet was a proponent of The City Beautiful Movement. He adapted this movement's philosophy to his designs and proposals for Montreal's avenues and boulevards.
