Abstract |
An examination of the mother-tongue (French, English or other) of students registered in Quebec universities between 2002 and 2014. The author determined that in 2014, 64.2 percent (27,050) of students in Quebec's English language universities were English speakers from Quebec; 25.1 percent (10,580) were English speakers from other parts of Canada; and 10.6 percent (4,481) were English speakers from other countries, for a total of 42,111 students. In 2014, the number of Quebec English speakers registered in the province's French language universities was 9.5 percent (2,564), an increase of 3.6 percent over the period 2002 to 2014. The number of Francophones attending French language universities in Quebec in 2014 was 201,942.
