Abstract |
The Scottish-born Ramsay Traquair (1874-1952) was the third Director of the School of Architecture at Montreal's McGill University. During his tenure (1913-39), he made significant contributions to teaching, historic preservation, cultural awareness, and establishment of a library for the profession of architecture. The author describes the contributions made by Traquair and his fellow-Scotsman predecessor at the School of Architecture, Percy Erskine Nobbs, to what is today known as the John Bland Canadian Architecture Collection (CAC) of McGill University, an archival teaching collection that helped shape professional architecture norms and practice in Quebec.
