Abstract
John Savage, an Irish-born New York Loyalist, was the leader of thirty-nine associates who, on 10 February 1801, after nine years of petitioning and developing the land, were granted 35,490 acres that became known as Shefford Township. This article focuses on the settlement of Shefford and the development of the community.
