Title
The Socioeconomic Status of Anglophones in Québec
Abstract
Analyzing the census socioeconomic indicators for the period 1991-2006, the author found that despite high levels of university education, Quebec Anglophones register higher unemployment rates than Francophones, and despite higher average incomes overall, they are proportionally more likely to live below the low income cut-off. Her analysis also found regional disparities, with greater income gaps among Anglophones in the Montreal census metropolitan area. She concludes that not only have Anglophones lost their relative socioeconomic advantage in comparison with Francophones, but also there is a widening economic disparity within the Anglophone population.
