To Find but a Grave: The Wreck of the Miracle
|
Abstract |
The tragic story of an 1847 shipwreck on the Magdalgen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Miracle was a "coffin ship" out of Liverpool taking 400 Irish immigrants, who were fleeing their country's famine, to Quebec City. The ship hit rocks off the Mags, drowning sixty passengers, with many more dying on shore. The author outlines the role played by his ancestors, John Clark and his sons, in saving as many passengers as they could.
