Abstract |
A brief examination of Montreal's diverse Irish community in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. As the author points out, the community was far from homogeneous. It was a mosaic of people of different religious denominations, social classes and political affiliations. Nevertheless, he argues, throughout the two centuries Montreal's Irish demonstrated a strong and dynamic community spirit that helped them maintain their collective identity.
