Dufferin District: An Area in Transition
|
Abstract |
The area of Montreal once known as Dufferin District was bounded by Saint Catherine on the north, St-Laurent on the east, Craig (now Saint-Antoine) on the south, and Bleury on the west. In the 1920s, as described by the author, the area had lapsed into a slum, inhabited by some twenty different immigrant groups and the city's demi-monde. Once known as "Little Ireland", by the late 1920s Dufferin District was inhabited by Irish, Russians, Chinese, Jews, Greeks, Italians and other nationality groups.
