| Abstract |
The Glasgow-born McGill (1744-1813) was a fur trader, Montreal merchant, land speculator, city magistrate, member of Lower Canada’s Legislative Assembly and Executive Council, and Colonel and Acting Brigadier-General of the Montreal Militia. He is best remembered for his endowment of land and money to establish a university that bears his name.
